A New Truth?
No doubt when John Harwood of CNBC tweeted the question "Who do you believe America? Wikileaks or the US Intel Officials" he was confident that the mainstream opinion would be enthusiastically shared by the American populace. The fact that 83% of the 84,000 respondents answered Wikileaks suggests that the establishment mouth pieces are not only wildly out of touch with public opinion, a fact reflected in the 2016 "surprise" election results, but have also lost control of the narrative.
Now, as a curious observer, I do not have access to enough objective information to decide who is the more trustworthy, Wikileaks or FBI, Obama or Putin, Clinton or Trump, but what is strange is that my opinions, informed by instinct and inquiry, appear to be aligned with an emerging majority view. Accustomed to being in the minority, communing with the conspiracy theorists, disaffected and disenfranchised I suddenly find my instinctive distrust of authority is an uncomfortably crowded space.
I am often asked when I challenge the establishment version of events "...and where do you get that information from?" In their arguments, the establishment apologists, assume the BBC, The Times, even the Daily Mail give an authority to their truth which easily trumps Zerohedge, John Pilger, Paul Craig Roberts and especially David Icke! However, judging by viewing figures, John Harwood tweets, and surprise election results it would appear that a new source of truth is emerging, a different version of the truth is available.
But can it be trusted?
Once again, I do not have enough objective information to answer that question definitively, and in all honesty I feel the answer is irrelevant. The exciting part of the movement away from the mainstream is that it is evidence of the emergence of a degree of critical thinking. To wake up to the fact that the accepted source of truth for most peoples life times (including Government, Religion and Big Corporations) is neither trustworthy nor objective is like the first fluttering of an eyelid in a coma patient.
What is critically important in these times, is that the awakening populace do not blindly accept the next "truth" which presents itself. ("I'm gonna drain the swamp" springs to mind).
In fact I would suggest that the only relevant truth in this emerging paradigm is personal truth. Looking to Government or Religion or seeking out the next Leader or Party capable of making everything OK is simply a continuation of the co-dependence which is embedded in our current structures.
Our co-dependency makes us vulnerable, weak and conditional in our love. Knowing what we know, being OK with who we are and allowing others to be themselves is an inside job. It cannot be imposed by an external authority.
The agenda of the "news" for many years has been to impress upon us what a dangerous world it is and how we need protecting from others and ourselves. This has been one of the most successful and damaging lies told to humanity, designed to engender co-dependence and dis-empower. The basic message being "you are not OK and not to be trusted."
I feel it is time to time to trust ourselves. I know it is a radical idea but humanity is fundamentally good. Humanity's weakness has been it's compassion because it makes us impressionable. An intimacy with and conviction to your personal truth provides a foundation that turns that compassion from a weakness into a our ultimate strength.
