Does God Fart?

Tom Kenyon has recently released a beautifully crafted film documenting his work as a sound healer. Song of the New Earth finishes with Tom's explaining that

"he had a misunderstanding and his mistake was that he could resolve the suffering of others... as the boy who sang the world (Tom) has grown up he is no longer singing the hopes and dreams of the people into existence. He is singing a space which allows them to create that for themselves."

Of course this is nothing new. It has been written in many different ways and was always the underlying philosophy of aCREATIVEspace. I believe all great teachers, healers, lovers, parents or friends simply create the space for self realisation and subsequently expression. This may be as profound as the realisation of self as the divine or as simple as feeling comfortable enough to fart in a yoga class. Both are God expressing through you!

I know it's presumptuous to assume God farts but I prefer a literal interpretation of "as above so below" and it's kind of nice to humanise a deity every now and again. In fact, I think this is what these times are all about.

I have just been profoundly moved by Adyashanti's book Resurrecting Jesus in which he explains the story of Jesus as a metaphor for awakening and I get the sense that this is a process many are experiencing at an individual level at the moment (there are signs of the collective shift as well). The really interesting point about the story of Christ lies in the resurrection.

Where most Eastern forms of spiritual awakening revolve around escaping the world of time and space, the resurrection describes the opposite. In the story, Jesus descends from enlightenment into the human condition. Rather than trying to escape the dualistic world that we live in, spirit is giving itself to the world to reveal that nothing is separated from divinity.

Trying to escape or transcend the world risks leaving us powerless within it. Our only true power is as a conduit for the expression of the divine which we all represent. This may require vulnerability and a lot of letting go, often with little idea of what lies ahead, but the alternative of holding onto the old just doesn't feel an option at the moment. The time feels right to step into life rather than escape it.

Time to let go.

With love
